President Brian’s Report NO 17: 15 Dec 2017

 The Annual General Meeting was held on Friday 8 December where the following people were elected;

Secretary                                                            Isla Bowen
Treasurer                                                           Elaine DeVries
Director of Administration                              Michael Yabsley
Director of Membership                                  Rowan Huxtable
Director of Service Projects/Vocational        Peter Rixon
Director of Rotary Foundation                       Stephen Swan
Director of New Generations                         Elaine Hart
President Elect                                                  Brian Ashe
President Nominee                                          Vacant

Brian also made mention that he would like members to think about putting in the extra yard and becoming a member of the Board in 2019/20 because this club could fold because of complacency about this. Many of the current Board have served for many years and do not wish to stand beyond 2018/2019.

I, along with Peter Hill and Rowan, attended the presentation for Rise and Shine Clean Up. The club received 2 awards, a certificate and a bag of goodies. This bag of goodies was auctioned at our club meeting and raised about$40 but probably more important it was a bit of fun. The best example was that Tony bought a paper bag for $1 but apparently was only scratching his head at the time of the bidding.

Saturday was our first Bunnings BBQ with members on hand to begin. We started selling at about 8.30am and went until about 4.15pm. The whole day raised about $2,300, with close to $1,650 clear profit. Raffle ticket sales at the Sausage sizzle were just over $1,000. Not only did we make that profit, many of our members there said they enjoyed the camaraderie of the day and as well one of our customers said that her sandwich was the best Bunning sanger she had ever had. Well done to Elaine and Peter DeVries, as well as all members and other volunteers that helped out on the day.

Family Breakfast is this Friday when I hope as many families attend and enjoy the company, the keyboard playing and hopefully a visit from Santa. Please bring a present for the woman’s refuge and a centre piece for the table including the three different paper clips

Christmas Party at the Master Builder’s Club on Saturday 16 December beginning 6.30 for 7.00pm Cost is $39 per head.

Sunday 17 December The Christmas Raffle will be drawn at 12 midday but tickets will be sold from 10am. This is in the Wollongong Mall Our Lord Mayor will do the drawer.

That is the last event of the year and we will go into hibernation until 2018.

Monday 15 January 2018 will be our first Australia Day practice and I will bring the uniforms along for collection. I am aware this is before we resume our meeting but we have run out of time. It will begin at 6.00pm at the Battery

Friday 19 January will be our first meeting and it will be held at my place as is the practice.

Monday 22 January will be the second practice again with uniforms to be collected. This will also begin at 6.00pm at the Battery.

Australia Day is Friday 26 January so the meeting will be held on the hill. I look forward to the club’s best participation yet.

2 February will be a breakfast at Steamers with partners included. More will be sent out about times etc.

9 February we will be back at the Novotel for the first time in 2018. On that day we will make presentations to the selected charities for Race Day and the Raffle

May I thank all members for their participation in the Club activities for the latter part of 2017 and I look forward to 2018. May all members have a happy and safe Christmas as this is my last report for the year.
