There was a Suspension of Standing Orders and the Opening of a Special Meeting to discuss a New Constitution as previously presented to the Club. Attendance, Apologies and Other Rotarians were the same as for the normal meeting. A motion was read out and moved by Peter Rixon, seconded by Stephen Swan.
The resolution was “That the Constitution of the Rotary Club of Illawarra Sunrise be replaced by the model Constitution, as recommended by our Rotary District 9675 and approved by Rotary International General Council be adopted.” This motion was discussed and put and was unanimously adopted. The Special Meeting was then closed.
Elaine De Vries then spoke of the meeting the night before as the start of planning for this year for Race Day. There was a need to know the fourth charity that the club chose so that they could be put to the Board meeting and adopted. The three already accepted were Rotary International, Youth Projects and The Philippines Project. This was done so that letters could be sent to possible Sponsors. The committee was asked to think about and advise Elaine of any further Sponsors as this sponsorship helps make the day profitable. There was a lot of discussion about all facets of race day looking at all activities of the day including the MC. There was general agreement that there would be minimal activities because of the difficulty of gaining attention of the room.
Peter announced that there would be a Trivia night at Corrimal Club on Saturday 16 July with money going to Aspect School. Corrimal Change over is on the 12 July and all are welcome.
David Swan then spoke on Ride 4 Rotary and that it had raised $14,800.00. There will be a follow up meeting next Thursday. The recipient of the funds was Southern Youth & Community Services. Planning has begun on next years event with special attempt to involve the Interact Club of St. Mary’s.
Rowan the raised the possibility of our club spending $55.00 for the printing of 1,00 Rotary Cards This amount was approved for that purpose. There was some discussion on this with Rob Edwards suggesting that the cards do not say JOIN but something more like “Find out more by coming to a meeting or have coffee with a member to find out about the club.
The Raffle was won by Peter Rixon who drew the 7 Diamonds.
This will be the last minutes I will be able to take for the Club’s Newsletter because from next meeting I will be the President. I would like to ask all members to consider taking this task on to continue with what I believe to be an excellent Newsletter.
