Presidents Report 23rd July, 2016

It has been an enjoyable past week.  Being President has given me an opportunity to visit our local clubs.  Monday night I attended Fairy Meadow and joined in with their presentation night.  Fairy Meadow has not changed their Presidency this year.  The club has about 10 members and there lies a lesson for all Rotary Clubs.

I was also told that Rotary Club of Bulli will cease and the members have begun to distribute their assets such as BBQ trailer etc.  Bulli Club has been chartered for 68 years and they meet every 2nd week.  An aging membership with the prospect of no new members has added to the pressure to cease, sad news.

Wednesday night 20th July was my first board meeting for this Rotary year.  The board meeting was well attended. Within 1 ½ hours we had completed all of the agenda items.  Please remember that board meetings are open to all full members.

Friday’s Club meeting was great.  Dr Frank Pitt spoke for ½ an hour followed by a question time. Frank was such an interesting speaker to listen to.  Those present to hear Frank speak appreciated his time with us.  Another milestone was achieved as we celebrated 23 years of the club charter.

Elaine Hart gave a brief description of events on the day of our charter where 200 plus people attended.  It would be great to hear some more of the stories that lead up to the Club being chartered.  I was impressed with efforts of our first charter president, Elaine Hart, and her involvement with the Club charter, well done to our charter members.

Friday night was fantastic; our Interact club from St Marys Star of the Sea put a terrific ‘Murder Mystery Night’ on.  This event was held within the School hall and attended by 60 plus people.  The girls dressed in 1950’s clothing.  They looked a treat and they did well with clues for the night’s event as we tried to guess who did it!  The event raised several hundred dollars, well done to our Interact club.

Upcoming events are this coming Friday, 29th July at Flagstaff Group.  7:15am for a 7:30am start.  Rolling Thunder Vietnam on Tuesday 2nd August and 10th August is the Ken Hutt presentation.  For the Ken Hutt presentation we have about 22 people going.  NOT TOO LATE TO BOOK so please hurry as seats for the event are limited.
