Tony began the meeting by calling up to the front Mr Rob Edwards to induct him into Illawarra Sunrise as the latest member. All club members then welcomed Rob to the club in the usual manner.
Elaine Hart then informed members of the Official Launch of Rotary Bowel Scan tomorrow, Saturday 23 April 2016 in the Admiral’s room at 10.00am. All welcome to attend. Elaine also had some kits for sale for $15.00 and when this is compared to other outlets, such as chemists which are selling the same kit for $35.00, the saving can clearly be seen.
At the Board meeting of 20 April 2016 there were three applications for Extended Leave from the club for varying reasons and as each was very valid, these applications were approved. This is noted in the introduction to these minutes.
Tony then spoke about the situation of the Wollongong Rotary Club. Leigh Robertson had to relinquish his duty as Club President for the years 2016/2017 for very valid reasons and the Club has not been able to find anybody to take up that role. This has placed the club in a vulnerable position. Michael Hough addressed our Board on Wednesday night as to the situation so that we were aware of what was happening. Michael also spoke about a number of community projects the Wollongong Club were undertaking which would be a shame to lose if the worst happened. Tony stated that there would be full Illawarra Sunrise consultation before any decisions were made about this matter if any decisions were required.
Lee Furness then raised a small hiccup about the Swing into Wings dinner. HARS is leased or owned by Shellharbour Council and part of their contract states there will be no functions on the property. Plan 1 out the window! Plan 2 Other options are currently being pursued and a decision will be made this weekend as to where the dinner will be held. Good luck Lee.
Tony announced that a donation of $1,500.00 was to be made to Interplast after a request from Di North for funds to continue their work in New Guinea. The Board approved this expenditure after investigating our financial position and ability to make the payment.
Tony also asked for some volunteers for Swing in to Wings to assist the Wollongong Club in selling Ice Creams, Pies and other delights to the crowds.
Tony announced that Paul Harris nominations will close next weekend so if you wish to nominate a member please do so before then.
Tony also reminded us that District Assembly was on Saturday 7 May 2016 at Greystaines High School.
David then gave club members a report on where Ride 4 Rotary was at this point in time. The event will be held on Sunday May 22 at the velodrome at Unanderra. Currently there are 25 people registered to ride so if you are going to ride please register and then go about getting sponsors to support you. Currently there is $1,500.00 in the kitty but it is hoped that $20,000.00 can be reached. David then gave an outline of the day. The emphasis is on this being a “Fun” day for all the family. There is nothing physically demanding on the day, riders ride for only ½ hour with no count on how many laps or the speed they are doing, this is all within your capacity. Money raised will go to Southern Youth & Community Services.
Michael then spoke on our Web Site and it’s usefulness in projects. The Web Page can be an easy conduit to other sites such as projects for people to register etc. Also Michael raised the fact that the Web Data Base is almost infinite, that is that corporate or individual sponsors can be recorded and then utilised at a future time. Annual Reports, Newsletters and forms can all be kept on the Web Site. This would be especially handy for new members, new Presidents, new Board Members who would all be able to call up this useful information without spending endless time trying to find the information elsewhere. Michael again urged all club members to look at this site.
Tony won the raffle and received a bottle of wine for his efforts.
