BURKE AND WILLS MEMORIAL EXPEDITION TO CHARLOTTE PASS
A strong and well equipped team consisting of Peter Hill , Martin Vasseur de Belgium, Isla, Michael, Karen , Brad wenzel (Minamurra Rotary), Peter and Collette Rixon, Wynn and Roberta Janssen, Rowan and Theresa Huxtable and their friends Grant and Linda Sefton established a base camp at the Pygmy Possum Lodge at Charlotte Pass on the weekend of 12th and 13th March 2016 AD. In spite of , or perhaps because of, the lavish stores of food, wine and beer, the expedition did not achieve any new extreme feats of Australian bushmanship. However expedition members did manage to visit Mt Stilwell, the old chairlift ruins, Blue Lake, Mt Twynam, Mt Carruthers, Mt Townsend and Mt Kosziuszsczscko (those Poles sure have a way with consonants).
The photos below might give the impression that the expedition was more concerned with eating, drinking and having a good time than with explorationary fervour….
